British Airways Predicts A Buzz At Gatwick This Bank Holiday Weekend

British Airways’ operations at Gatwick are gearing up for a bumper Bank Holiday weekend as thousands of families jet off for half-term breaks.

British Airways Predicts A Buzz At Gatwick This Bank Holiday Weekend

The airline’s 3,000 Gatwick based staff, including 1,200 cabin crew, will be working flat-out to operate more than 500 flights to and from 50 long haul and European destinations over the four days of the holiday weekend.

Cabin crew at Gatwick have ignored Unite’s strike calls, so British Airways flights from the UK’s second busiest airport have been unaffected.

British Airways’ long haul programme at Gatwick has grown this summer, with 52 departures a week to 13 destinations. The most popular destinations for families are Orlando and Tampa for holidays in Florida. Other hotspots include flights to Male for romantic holidays in the Maldives, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and seven other Caribbean destinations.

British Airways is officially the airline flying to more Caribbean islands than any other carrier from the UK and until 10 June 2010 is offering many Caribbean hotels with up to 25% off from good value lead in properties through to five star resorts.

British Airways is also one of Gatwick’s most punctual operators. In March, the airline recorded its best ever punctuality performance with 95 per cent of flights departing on time.

Alan Peever, British Airways general manager at Gatwick, said: “British Airways is really buzzing at Gatwick. We have a big flying programme to a wide network, great punctuality and brilliant service.

“Our operations are at full throttle this weekend as thousands of families take advantage of the half-term holiday. Flights are extremely full, and all our teams are looking forward to providing our customers with the best possible service in the air and on the ground.”

Premier Inn Launches ‘Premier Weekends’

Premier Inn has announced the launch of ‘Premier Weekends’ with a brand new advert featuring British comedian Lenny Henry.

The creative will hero Premier Inn’s ‘Premier Weekends’, a £12 million marketing campaign which is designed to encourage Brits to make the most of their weekends by taking a good value break with Premier Inn. The adverts will continue to reinforce Premier Inn’s superior budget hotel offering and will position Premier Inn as the number one hotel of choice for leisure travellers.

The campaign will feature two different versions of the new TV adverts each showing Lenny Henry enjoying various weekend activities ranging from taking a break in the countryside, to a spot of fishing, trying his hand at golf and attending a wedding.

All communication will highlight Premier Offers, which is Premier Inn’s value room offer where guests can book rooms sleeping up to a family of four for just £29 per room per night.*

Steve Conway, Head of Marketing at Premier Inn said: “Our ‘Premier Weekends’ campaign cements Premier Inn’s position as the leading hotel brand in the UK. This new creative illustrates that we are located in some of the most beautiful parts of the UK as well as city centres, and that we are keen to offer our guests a great weekend break.”

Lenny Henry, the face of Premier Inn added: “Filming the latest adverts has been a lot of fun; working with Paul Weiland and the creative team was inspiring and I think they have created something very special. In these adverts you see me making the most of the weekend in and around a Premier Inn Hotel – going crazy on the dance floor at a wedding; hiking; fly fishing; and playing golf – a lifelong love of mine. What more could a guy ask for?”

The campaign was created by Premier Inn’s advertising agency, Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe / Y&R, who also created the last two advertising campaigns that have featured Lenny Henry, and was directed by Paul Weiland.

‘Premier Weekends’ will be supported by a fully integrated print media, public relations and digital campaign.

Superbreak Expands Product Range For UK And Overseas Theme Parks

Packages, such as the recently extended ‘Legoland – Kids Go Free’ offer, which runs for bookings made before 31st May 2010, have already proven highly successful and similar promotions at other leading attractions are expected to be just as popular.

Last year, Superbreak booked over 10,000 passengers into a range of theme park breaks at some of the UK’s top parks and attractions, as well as overseas. Sales for the second May bank holiday, as well as the summer period, are already strong as customers take advantage of the range of new promotions and packages on offer.

Favourites in the program this year include the Summer Sizzler Promotion at Alton Towers, which provides discounted package rates during the months of June, September and October 2010. Skyscanner Reveals Top Destinations for Smokers and Non-smokers

With “Worldwide No Tobacco Day” (31st May 2010) encouraging smokers around the globe to stub out their cigarettes, cheap airfare comparison site Skyscanner uncovers the best countries to visit to escape the smoke…and countries where smokers may light up guilt-free.

Skyscanner Reveals Top Destinations for Smokers and Non-smokers

Smoke-free zones

Iceland – Smoking and the use of tobacco in enclosed public spaces, including: bars, restaurants and clubs, as well as public land intended for use by children, is banned. Too bad the smoking ban does not apply to volcanoes.

Ireland – The Emerald Isle led the way with its anti-tobacco laws; being the first country in the world to enforce an outright ban on smoking in enclosed workplaces -which includes clubs, bars, restaurants and clubs.

Australia – Anti-smoking travelers catching flights to Sydney will be pleased to know that smoking in enclosed public spaces is banned throughout the country.

Canada – Bars and restaurants in Canada have been smoke-free zones for several years now and, in some provinces, shop owners are required to keep tobacco products behind non-see-through closed doors.

US – While the US Congress has not enacted a nationwide smoking ban, some 26 states, including California and New York, have no-smoking laws designed to keep workplaces, bars and restaurants smoke-free.

Smoker friendly zones

Japan – Smokers are welcomed with open arms in the Land of the Rising Sun where smoking is permitted in bars and restaurants across most of the country.

Andorra – Despite high life-expectancy, smoking in bars, restaurants or clubs in this Pyrenean principality is permitted. The fact that Andorra is a duty-free country makes it popular with smokers looking for bargain cigarettes.

Hungary – Visitors who grab a cheap flight to Europe may relax with a glass of Tokai, while lighting up in a music-filled cafe, knowing that antismoking laws in this welcoming country are virtually unenforceable.

Stena Line Announce Early Return For Stena HSS

Stena Line has announced that the HSS Stena Explorer will now commence service on its Holyhead – Dun Laoghaire route a month earlier on 26 May to cope with additional demand over the summer period.

Stena Line Announce Early Return For Stena HSS

Commenting on the move, Vic Goodwin Route Director Stena Line said: “Our decision to bring back the HSS Stena Explorer onto the route a month earlier has been influenced by the fact that market demands this year are much higher than we had anticipated due in large part to the ongoing uncertainty in respect of the problems faced by airlines in relation to the volcanic ash situation. We needed to increase our capacity on the route so we have decided to introduce the HSS Stena Explorer a month earlier from its scheduled 28 June date through until 5 September.”

The HSS Stena Explorer can carry up to 1500 passengers and 350 cars compared to the Stena Lynx capacity of up to 500 passengers and 140 cars. The reintroduction of the HSS Stena Explorer will also provide Stena Line with the ability to handle higher volumes of foot passengers, which has been a specific feature of the volcanic ash situation and Dun Laoghaire Harbour provides passengers with an adjacent Dart connection straight to Dublin City and the surrounding area.

The HSS Stena Explorer will operate one round trip per day with a 10.00 hours sailing from Holyhead and a 13.15 hours sailing from Dun Laoghaire. The Stena Lynx will operate a fast craft service from 10 July on the Fishguard – Rosslare route as originally planned.

Expedia Serves Up the Best Spa Hotels in London, Hong Kong and Bangkok

Picking the perfect hotel can make or break a spa holiday. After all, the point of a spa holiday is to stay at a hotel that excels at pampering its guests. If the spa hotel is less than luxurious, then it disappoints the guest not only as an accommodation, but on the pampering front as well. Expedia has a category of hotel listings just for this type of holiday, with spa hotels in London, Hong Kong and Bangkok among the offerings.

Expedia Serves Up the Best Spa Hotels in London, Hong Kong and Bangkok

A holiday planner simply goes to Expedia and selects the hotel guide for the city she wants to visit. For example, if she goes to the London Hotel Guide, she will find 36 spa hotels in London to check out. F r o m there, she can narrow her search again by star ratings – 18 of the spa hotels in London on Expedia are five star – and by area of the city and hotel brand. Clicking into a hotel listing delivers extensive information about the spa hotel, including a list of hotel and room amenities, onsite dining options, hotel policies, and, of course, nightly rates and any additional fees. The planner also can look at photos of the hotel and its rooms, take a virtual tour, plus read insider tips and traveler reviews of the spa hotels in London.

In the hotel guide for Bangkok, Expedia breaks out 32 spa hotels. MyCapeTownInfo Reports Rise In Internet Advertising By Cape Town Tourism Businesses

MyCapeTownInfo has reported noticeable increases in the number of Cape Town businesses which have been switching over to internet advertising in 2010 in preparation for the 2010 Football World Cup.

MyCapeTownInfo Reports Rise In Internet Advertising By Cape Town Tourism Businesses

MyCapeTownInfo site owner, Gareth Dallas, commented, “It’s predominantly as a result of a huge telecommunications infrastructure upgrade and subsequent high speed ADSL internet packages that have become available, that Cape Town businesses have begun to experience the true value of internet advertising and internet visibility.”

Businesses in South Africa have only recently been able to upgrade to unlimited bandwidth at speeds of 4096 kb/s. Before the successful installation of the undersea fibre optic Seacom cable in the last half of 2009, internet access was slow and cumbersome. Some South African Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) began offering 4096 kb/s to the general public as recently as January 2010.

These upgrades have resulted in many businesses being able to successfully increase their internet visibility. Local tourist businesses have historically tended to focus primarily on printed brochures and pamphlets for their marketing activities. MyCapeTownInfo has noted a 25% increase in fixed-position/fixed-term online advertising sales as more people are switching significant portions of their advertising spend to cheaper online advertising.

With the FIFA(R) Football World Cup kicking off in South Africa on the 11 June 2010, football fans coming to South Africa have already begun researching accommodation options in Cape Town and information about the cities that their teams will be playing in. The FIFA(R) Football World Cup presents the single largest advertising opportunity that Cape Town has ever had. It has been estimated that approximately 1 billion people will be watching Cape Town matches on television screens around the world.

MyCapeTownInfo is one of the leading and most comprehensive sources of quality tourist information about Cape Town. Long after the football fans leave, Table Mountain will still be standing, Cape Town’s wine will still be flowing and Cape Town restaurants like the Grand Café and Beach, will still be winning awards. Already Cape Town has been declared as a favourite long haul destination by several airlines.
