British Airways Announces Selection Of Christmas Market City Breaks

British Airways has announced that it is kicking off the festive period with a selection of Christmas Market city-breaks for the entire family to enjoy.

Included in the airline’s selection of Christmas market cities is Berlin. Customers can visit Berlin, the capital city of Christmas Markets with over 60 to wander around, including the market at Charlottenburg Castle, which boasts over 150 stalls and Winter World at Potzdamer Platz. It also hosts the largest mobile toboggan run in Europe and an ice skating rink for the less daring.

British Airways will also be offering breaks in Vienna this season. Well-known for the Magic of Advent Christmas market by City Hall and the traditional Viennese Christmas market on Freyung, Vienna is also known as a place of nostalgia, romance and music. The aromas of candied fruits, cotton candy and other delicacies like Christmas punch fill the air of Vienna’s Christmas markets with festive aromas.

Prague is another city on the list of British Airway’s Christmas market destinations, with flights to Prague expected to increase in popularity during the holiday season. The Czech capital has a range of tourist attractions and Christmassy treats in what many would call a true winter wonderland setting. The Prague Christmas markets run daily in the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square and feature brightly decorated huts selling traditional Czech handicrafts and local delicacies, making holidays in Prague one of British Airway’s top selections for Christmastime city-breaks.

Paris may not be the first city one would associate with Christmas markets; however, the Parisians have their own version of this festive outdoor shopping tradition. The Christmas Market on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées is the largest Christmas market within Paris’ city limits. A cluster of wood chalets, it offers traditional holiday treats including mulled wine, gingerbread, sausages and specialties from various regions of France.

Switzerland is another destination that British Airways has included in its collection of Christmas market city-breaks. This year, Zurich will be hosting a new Christmas lighting display on Bahnhofstrasse, the city’s celebrated shopping high street, and special ‘Night and Sunday Shopping’ hours so visitors can shop late into the evening. Zurich has a packed events calendar over the Christmas period that includes the Lichterschwimmen floating candles display, Christmas circuses, the Live On Ice skating rink and a Singing Christmas Tree.

LondonTown.com Offers Great Deals On London Hotels For Visitors To the Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker

Choreographer Peter Wright’s production of The Nutcracker, performed by the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House since 1984, may well be the longest running – returning for its 27th year on Saturday 3rd December 2011 and running until Wednesday 18th January 2012 – but it is also the most delightful and critically acclaimed in London.

Tickets to The Nutcracker are highly sought after and for those who have managed to secure a seat and who want to stay in the city the best advice is to book one of the cheap London hotels on the website LondonTown.com which has a wide range of accommodation to suit all budgets.

No wonder The Royal Ballet’s production is so popular, it’s “easily the most fabulous looking” ( The Guardian ) of the many different versions of The Nutcracker staged in London at this time of year. Though traditional, the long-standing production shows no signs of ageing with its growing Christmas tree, its exquisitely detailed costumes and lavish sets.

Tchaikovsky’s score is ‘the star of The Nutcracker’ according to Peter Wright and it’s hard to disagree as the ballet contains some of the most recognisable tunes in classical music – including ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’ and ‘Waltz of the Snowflakes’. The plot, based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s adapted story, begins on Christmas Eve when a little girl, Clara, is given a nutcracker doll by the mysterious Drosselmeyer. That night, as the clock strikes twelve, the toys come to life and a balletic battle between the mice, led by the Mouse King, and an army of toy soldiers begins.

The Nutcracker has a special place at the heart of the Royal Opera House; it was this production, starring Darcey Bussell as the Sugar Plum Fairy, which was chosen as the first full-length ballet to be performed by the Royal Ballet when the venue re-opened its doors in December 1999 following a two-year closure and a £214 million renovation project.

As much a part of Christmas as opening the presents, a trip to The Nutcracker is a wonderful festive outing. For more information about the Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker visit LondonTown.com, a useful resource for visitors planning a trip to London with listings on everything from ballet to boltholes. Find and book hotels and restaurants, and discover the most festive events happening in London this Christmas.

Jumeirah Followers Design The ‘Hotel Of The Future’

Jumeirah Group, the Dubai-based luxury hospitality company and a member of Dubai Holding, recently engaged with the audience at the annual TEDx Dubai event to create the hotel room of the future.

Participants to the conference, as well as keen Tweeps from Dubai, the UAE and the world, shared their creative and original ideas which were then converted from the digital realm to a futuristic masterpiece with the help of talented local artist Zanjeer Salam.

The result was a four metre canvas displaying a variety of unique ideas of what the ‘Hotel of the Future‘ may look like, where it may be situated, and what features and facilities would be available.

The TEDx programme is designed to give communities, organisations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue at the local level. Jumeirah Group, a sponsor of TedX Dubai, used social media as a channel to engage with the public and merge their virtual ideas to create a physical masterpiece. This unique concept is a reflection of the innovativeness and ingenuity associated with the Jumeirah brand.

The top 10 ideas to be transposed to the canvas were:

– #HotelFuture floats in clouds and has invisible walls and floors to offer a breath-taking view. Food can be teleported.
– The flying hotel that glides travellers around the world in style.
– “Holographic Virtual Personal Assistant” with a menu of caricatures to choose from.
– An underwater hotel with a view of the marine life from the windows.
– It’d be nice to see some pet-friendly hotels.
– Hotel of the future should have iPads in every room.
– The walls of the room would basically be an LED touchscreen that could be dimmed to convert to glass with the view.
– Guests are virtually transported to a destination of their choice by selecting one from Jumeirah hotels’ travel channel.
– Hotel in the Heavens – zero gravity orbital hotel located on the moon. Wake up gazing out at terra firma in repose.
– Each bedroom in the #HotelFuture will have its own robot for cleaning and other services.

Jumeirah captured the experience with an on-site camera crew to capture the ideas as they were illustrated. The video can be viewed on www.jumeirah.com/tedxdubai.

Travellers getting online six weeks before Christmas to avoid festive car rental disappointment

Online car hire specialist eRentals.co.uk has reported that Brits are booking Christmas car hire earlier than ever this year. The website, which helps travellers source car hire in over 12,000 locations around the world, this week reports that advance booking for Christmas is up by 38% with around six weeks still to go.

Historically, travellers have tended to see car rental as an optional extra and something which can be left until the last minute says eRentals.co.uk. This year however, the website is seeing many more tourists plan ahead and book car hire well before travelling.

eRentals.co.uk also reports that this year’s most popular Christmas car hire collection points throughout Europe are Geneva, Heathrow Airport, Lisbon, Faro and Manchester Airport. Many Brits head away overseas during the festive season to spend Christmas with relatives.

Briony Fairbairn, spokesperson for eRentals.co.uk, says: “Traditionally Brits have a habit of waiting until they arrive somewhere before finding car hire, or at best booking a few days before they travel. This year seems to have seen a change in behaviour.”

“At Christmas each year car hire providers see increased demand for family vehicles like 4x4s and people carriers, so booking ahead is essential. The same applies to added extras like child seats, waiting until arrival in a resort before asking about them can result in disappointment. So this year’s rise in people booking ahead is a refreshing change and these people will have a more enjoyable car hire experience.”

eRentals.co.uk is a specialist car hire company, providing low cost car rental in over 12,000 locations around the World. Committed to finding its customers the best prices, eRentals.co.uk offers a quick and easy search of the latest offers, including Majorca car hire and Lanzarote car hire, for a festive escape in the sun.

VJV has announced the release of its new “Classic Resorts and Weekends” brochure which focuses on short breaks to a range of destinations around the world.

Recognising that long-haul adventures have their place in the modern traveller’s itinerary, but also knowing that there are times when only a short break will do, the latest edition of Voyages Jules Verne’s “Classic Resorts & Weekends” brochure has no fewer than 36 such itineraries, ranging from city stays to resort experiences in destinations across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

The new brochure includes short breaks to classic European cities such as Rome, Venice, St. Petersburg and Prague. It also suggests ideas for those seeking a few relaxing days in the sun, suggesting hot spots such as Marrakech and Luxor. As well as sunny getaways, the brochure also features destination ideas for those seeking snow-covered scenery, such as the Austrian village of Obsteig with ‘Winter in Tirol’, a seven-night stay at a family-run hotel that includes traditional winter activities and a visit to Innsbruck. Also featured are ideas for Christmas time retreats, such as a four-night mini-cruise encompassing the Advent festivities of Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava.

One of the most unique suggestions featured in the new brochure is the opportunity to see the Northern Lights. The brochure also covers tours of the Arctic Circle and visits to Norway’s Arctic capital, Tromsø.

The latest “Classic Resorts & Weekends” collection also includes several new itineraries for VJV’s portfolio of Russia holidays, Vienna tours, Bordeaux holidays, Italy tours and South Africa tours.

Award-winning car hire website sees Brits putting lives at risk by ignoring tyre and brake checks ahead of winter

Carrentals.co.uk, the car hire comparator which helps people save on rentals in over 15,000 destinations around the world, has announced the results of a new road safety poll. The website surveyed more than 2,300 UK drivers and discovered that 1 in 3 choose not to have their vehicle serviced due to expense and 1 in 5 have not had bald or worn tyres replaced ahead of winter.

The poll also showed that 1 in 10 motorists have changed from comprehensive to third-party car insurance to save money while pre-winter car servicing and checks are also being neglected; 60% of people have saved money on not getting tyres checked while 80% haven’t had their brakes checked either.

Changing brake pads regularly is usually considered a car maintenance essential, but 10% of respondents told Carrentals.co.uk that they have not done so recently to save money.

Gareth Robinson, managing director of Carrentals.co.uk, says: “The results of our latest survey were somewhat concerning, as road safety is simply so important particularly in winter. We understand that people need to make cutbacks wherever possible but we don’t advise skimping on vehicle maintenance.”

“British winters are typically hazardous on the roads and ice causes many accidents every year. With that in mind we want people to consider where else they can make savings rather than neglecting their car’s safety, something which puts themselves and others at risk.”

The Carrentals.co.uk poll also found that almost 1 in 3 people have traded their car in for a cheaper to maintain model in recent times, while more than 56% now visit an independent garage for car servicing in place of more costly authorised places.

Traditional car rescue cover has also suffered as a result of the financial crisis according to the new Carrentals.co.uk survey. 1 in 10 people have cancelled car rescue contracts and 3% of people confessed to driving without insurance due to the costs of policies these days.

“People clearly need to make cutbacks wherever possible these days, and we understand that entirely, Gareth went on. “However that is not to say that we condone neglecting road safety. Car maintenance is essential, especially with icy weather on the way, so we urge people to look for other ways to save money this winter.”

The award winning Carrentals.co.uk is the leading car hire comparison site comparing the best deals from up to 50 rental companies, including Alamo, Auto Europe, Budget, Holiday Autos and Sixt. Travellers can rent a car in over 15,000 locations around the world, including car hire in Tenerife, and car hire in Lanzarote for a winter sun escape.

The Rat Pack – Live from Las Vegas takes its audience on a trip back in time to the 1950s and 1960s; where the Hollywood glamour pusses and gentlemen in top hats spent their post-war money in smoke-filled swing bars listening to a music revolution. They later discovered a different sound – the 60s! Spend some time in the company of some of the world’s most popular entertainers and recreate the atmosphere of The Sands Hotel in the Royal Drury Lane Theatre . The Sands Hotel was the very height of sophistication back in the 50s and provided the location for one of the most monumental moments in swing history, for it was during the filming of the original Oceans Eleven where legends Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford all sang on stage together for the first time. This performance sealed their group stage name, The Rat Pack.

This exceptional performance celebrates the incredible talent and energy that these world-famous performers managed to bring to each and every one of their shows. For one night only, catch this show-stopping performance at the Royal Drury Lane Theatre. London’s oldest theatre demands a visit in itself, with its spectacular palatial auditorium. TripAdvisor Can Help Hoteliers, Says Bespoke Hotels

Following recent newspaper articles slating online holiday review site TripAdvisor, Bespoke Hotels has come forward to highlight the usefulness of the website to both current and prospective entrepreneurs within the accommodation industry.

Luxury hotel group Bespoke Hotels has appeared in an article in the November issue of magazine Caterer and Hotelkeeper, in which the hotel’s chairman, Robin Sheppard, has spoken out against those that are unwilling to embrace TripAdvisor.

The review website has caused much upset for hotel owners in the past, with past customers writing unfriendly and sometimes slanderous reviews that could potentially damage the hotel’s reputation. Despite being a part of the hotel industry though, Bespoke Hotels has different views.

Robin Sheppard said in the article: “You’re going to get the occasional angry punter who’s had a bad experience. Sometimes it will be justified and you’ll know it. Sometimes it will be completely unjustified and you’ll know it.

“But if you’re running a great hotel or restaurant, if your service and your food are fantastic nine times out of 10, then your TripAdvisor reviews will be great nine times out of 10.”

Rather than turn against TripAdvisor, Bespoke Hotels is instead urging fellow hoteliers to start realising the importance of the review website, as a majority of good reviews will only stand you in good stead. In fact, an industry report by the World Travel Market in 2010 showed that one in 10 consumers checked reviews on TripAdvisor before booking a hotel. This means that, when looking for a luxury hotel London accommodation, and hotels in other areas of the UK that appear favourably on TripAdvisor, could see a spike in guests.

According to Sheppard, “If TripAdvisor weren’t there as an outlet for the one guest who saw a photo of your plushest suite on your website but ended up in your standard room without a view, then they’d find some other way of complaining about it.”

Those against the use of TripAdvisor have fervently called for all reviews to be checked by website staff before being posted, whereas Bespoke Hotels disagree, saying that: “Owners, managers and executives work hard to keep staff honest and on their toes. So who keeps us on our toes? Why, the reviewers of course.

“Think of TripAdvisor as the industry’s conscience, because it’s here to stay.”
