Bo Sang Umbrella and San Kamphaeng Handicraft Festival coming to Thailand

Visitors to Chiang Mai in Thailand will soon be able to experience a celebration of regional culture at the annual Bo Sang Umbrella and San Kamphaeng Handicraft Festival.

Taking place between January 20th and 22nd 2012, the 29th edition of the event will see the streets of Ban Bo Sang lined with colourfully decorated craft shops and displays of bright umbrellas and traditional lanterns.

Bo Sang is well known for its hand-painted parasols, which are created using silk and mulberry paper before being decorated with distinctive floral designs, with travellers prizing the items highly as decorative gifts.

Indeed, the Bo Sang parasol was once honoured with the title of best souvenir at an international tourism seminar held in Los Angeles.

Tourists in Chiang Mai during the festival will be able to see dozens of umbrellas as their surroundings are decorated in Lanna Thai style, while various other shows and events will also take place during the day and night.

These include contests, exhibitions, cultural performances and processions, including a parasol parade, a Miss Bo Sang pageant and various northern-style Khan Toke meals.

A diverse selection of Thailand hotels is available to cultural enthusiasts at AsiaRooms.com, such as the Le Meridien Chiang Mai.
