Phuket’s Ao Chalong Yacht Club to host Bay Regatta
Ao Chalong Yacht Club has announced that the annual Bay Regatta will be taking place in Phuket for the 15th time at the beginning of February 2012.
Formerly known as the Phang Nga Bay Regatta, the event will take place between February 1st and 5th this year and typically attracts between 40 and 50 yachts, with routes running between the provinces of Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi.
It will see boat crews travelling to a different anchorage each evening, beginning at Koh Maphrao and travelling to Koh Yao Noi and Krabi, before finishing up at the south-east end of Phuket on the final day.
A non-profit event, the regatta prioritises fun over competitiveness, with regular dinners, prize-giving events and parties helping to create a strong spirit of camaraderie among crews.
Entrants are expected from all around the world, including participants from the UK, Hong Kong, Australia, the US, France and Germany, as well as Thailand.
This is one of many sailing events organised around the year by Ao Chalong Yacht Club, the clubhouse for which is located at Chaofa Road in east Phuket.
Boating enthusiasts will be able to find all sorts of Phuket hotels at AsiaRooms.com, with the Patong Merlin Hotel among them.
Full details about the regatta can be found at www.acyc-phuket.com/bayregatta.htm.
