Enjoy The Marriage of Figaro in Cardiff
Opera fans visiting Cardiff are in for a treat next month, when The Marriage of Figaro opens at the Wales Millennium Centre (WMC).
The production by the Welsh National Opera (WNO) is due to begin on Saturday February 25th and a further three performances will be staged on Tuesday February 28th, Thursday March 1st and Saturday March 3rd.
Audience members can expect an authentic treatment of Mozart’s 1786 opera, as it will be sung in Italian with subtitles in England and Welsh.
However, the WNO’s version sets the tale in Spain during the early 1930s, with a cast including David Soar as Figaro, Elizabeth Watts as Susanna and Rebecca Evans as Countess Almaviva.
Those familiar with the story will know that the action takes place on a single day, as engaged lovers Figaro and Susanna attempt to restore the love between Count and Countess Almaviva.
Each performance will begin at 19:00 GMT and the running time is approximately three hours and 25 minutes, including one interval. Tickets are priced between £5 and £39.50.
The opera will be staged in the Donald Gordon Theatre, which is the WMC’s main auditorium with a capacity of just over 1,800.
