British Airways offer more movie time and top TV onboard

British Airways has announced that it will become the first UK airline to provide in-flight entertainment screens from the second customers take their seats to the moment they arrive at their destination.

From December 1, British Airways customers will be able to spend even more time – up to an hour more – enjoying movies, top TV shows and a wide selection of music onboard the airline’s flights.

Frank van der Post, British Airways’ director of brands and customer experience, said: “We’re continually looking for new services and products that will make travelling with British Airways even better for our customers.

“We know how much our customers enjoy our carefully selected in-flight entertainment so we’re delighted that now they’ll be able to pack even more of the programmes and films into their long-haul flights.

“And with the Christmas break coming up, we’re sure that children flying with British Airways will love having more time to watch the great films we offer, and so will their parents.”

The extension to in-flight entertainment is part of a £5 billion investment programme by British Airways, which includes new aircraft, refurbished cabins and better lounges.

In line with other UK carriers, British Airways currently starts its in-flight entertainment system once the aircraft has taken off and following various
announcements and turns it off 15-20 minutes before the aircraft lands.

The airline was given the green light by the Civil Aviation Authority to introduce extended in-flight entertainment on its fleet of long haul aircraft.

This service will be also available on new routes the airline is launching, including London Heathrow to Seoul in South Korea which starts on Sunday, December 2, 2012. Customers looking to cross the Atlantic for a spot of Christmas shopping, or to simply enjoy holidays in New York or holidays in Boston, can now look forward to a flight filled to the brim with entertainment.

Previously recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for housing the tallest gingerbread man, Gingerbread Lane welcomes more than 20,000 visitors annually. “We are proud to be associated with Hyatt Regency Vancouver and Gingerbread Lane again this year.” says Ross Hetherington, Chief Executive Officer of Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon. “It’s a fun event for the entire family”

For the past 22 years, kids of all ages have enjoyed the meticulously designed masterpieces on display and have supported the partnership with Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon by making a donation when voting for their favourite gingerbread house.

“We are thrilled to participate again in this magnificent Vancouver tradition and support a wonderful cause,” says Ulrich Samietz, General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Vancouver hotel. “As in the past, we look forward to assisting in granting a wish that will have a significant and positive impact on the life of a very special child.”

Ingredients include 500 pounds of gingerbread dough, 400 pounds of confectioners’ sugar and 1,400 egg whites, plus a few secret ingredients and a little help from Hyatt Regency Vancouver’s engineering department. American Idiot Comes to Hammersmith Apollo

A new musical based on Green Day’s nu-punk opera ‘American Idiot’ is coming to the UK this winter. Following some well-received dates in cities including Glasgow and Birmingham , the show will set up at the Hammersmith Apollo from December 4th until December 16th.

The musical has been garnering rave reviews in the States, with critics variously proclaiming it ‘kick ass’ and ‘a physical and visual knockout’. ‘American Idiot’, which combines youthful energy with political awareness, has been touring the world on the back of a hugely successful Broadway run.

The show tells the tale of three old friends forced to choose between sticking with the suburban safety net which surrounds them and heading out into the world to pursue their dreams. The New York Times – which can make or break a Broadway show – described it as ‘thrilling, emotionally charged, and as moving as any Broadway musical I’ve seen this year’.

Combining the music of Green Day – both from ‘American Idiot’ and its follow-up ‘21st Century Breakdown’ – with a theatrical experience and sets from Tony winner Christine Jones, the show is now in development for a movie helmed by Tom Hanks. Billie Joe Armstrong’s politically-charged lyrics, along with the energetic pop-punk score, signal a new era of adventurousness for the Broadway musical, and Londoners are quickly snapping up tickets – whic h cost £26.50-£42.50 – for the experience. Eager fans are advised to book soon to avoid disappointment.

Tickets are available through LondonTown.com, the capital’s premier booking and information centre. The site has also announced discounts on a number of London hotels, including a several in convenient proximity to the Hammersmith Apollo.

Included in the new schedule are flights to the sun-drenched island of Corfu. Thought to be one of the most relaxed of the Greek islands with some of the best beaches and architecture in the country, Corfu is a must-see for lovers of all things Greek.

Flights to Copenhagen, one of the airline’s new routes, are set to continue throughout the summer. Additional frequencies will be added to many customers’ favourite flights to Europe, including destinations such as Berlin, Lisbon, Lanzarote and Nice.

Aer Lingus will also introduce a new service from Shannon to Faro, Portugal, giving customers easy access to the ever-popular holiday resort of the Algarve. In addition, the airline has brought forward the recommencement of services to New York and Boston to March 11th after a short winter break – just in time to meet the strong demand for St. Patrick’s weekend.

Customers travelling from Munster have fantastic choice from Cork airport with 23 destinations to choose from and extra flights to Faro and Barcelona every week. Daily flights will continue between Ireland West Airport – Knock and London Gatwick and Birmingham.

Commenting on the launch, Aer Lingus Director of Communications, Declan Kearney said: “Our 2013 summer schedule offers our customers more choice with additional frequencies, new destinations and a great mix of city break and summer sun options. We’ve also significantly increased our number of transatlantic flights in response to customer demand. We look forward to welcoming customers on board the new services.”

For summer 2013, Aer Lingus will add an extra 112,000 seats to its transatlantic flight offers. This 15% increase in transatlantic capacity versus 2011 will take the form of 90 additional roundtrips between Dublin and Boston and 120 additional roundtrips between Dublin and Chicago. This will give a significant boost to inbound tourism from the United States.
