Jazz Festival Returns to London

This winter sees the long-running London Jazz Festival, featuring a bigger line-up of stars and venues than ever before. Jazz talent from all over the world will descend on the capital, including major names like Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard and Macy Gray. The ten day event will take place from November 9 th -18 th .

The event began life in the seventies as ‘Jazz Week’, and was confined to the borough of Camden, as part of its annual cultural festival. It was a highpoint of the international jazz calendar, with a focus on introducing fresh talent from the British and global scenes.

The demise of the Camden Festival in the early nineties opened the door for the London Arts Board to patronize Jazz Week as a citywide extravaganza, with the inaugural LJF taking place in 1992. The festival has been growing in stature ever since, and gigs now take place at venues right across London, including the iconic Ronnie Scott’s in Soho.

The 2012 programme is bigger and better than ever before, covering major venues including the 606 Club, the Forge, the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Centre. At the heart of the action is the multi-venue Southbank Centre.

Fans are expected to come from all over the world, and website LondonTown.com has revealed details of exclusive discounts on what promises to be much sought-after accommodation. A number of London hotels have partnered with the site to aid travelling jazz aficionados in the hunt for affordable accommodation.

One of the more luxury offerings is the London Marriott Hotel County Hall, situated a few minutes from the Southbank Centre on Westminster Bridge Road. Double rooms – including spectacular views of the River Thames – are currently being offered at a 61%, bringing the cost of a night’s stay down to £205.

More affordably, the Charing Cross Guoman Hotel is offering a 90% reduction on their usual rate. The cost of a room, when booking through LondonTown.com, becomes just £99. The hotel is located on the Strand, less than ten minutes walk from the Southbank Centre.

For more information on the 2012 London Jazz Festival, and to view more discounted London hotels close to the Southbank Centre and other venues, visit LondonTown.com.

Cruzeiro-Safaris.com Features Most Popular Group Or Shared Safaris In Kenya For Budget Travelers

Budget travelers are increasingly looking for holiday destinations on the internet opting to join other people for any safari package in Kenya. Most Tourists use price as a major factor in deciding which safari company to use thus the idea to share the costs.

Over the past 8 months it has been reported that there has been an increase of requests by single and budget travellers on shared Safaris. Group bookings arranged to make travel and accommodation cheaper for tourists in Kenya have dominated this safari option, the groups are encouraged to charter planes at reduced airfares from Europe to Kenya to come and join Safari Ndovu 6 days safari package.

Featuring of the Safari Ndovu 6 day safari package by Cruzeiro-Safaris.com is a pocket friendly safari incorporating 2 national parks, 1 game reserve and 1 popular eatery attraction. It is important for tourists to know the different wildlife terminologies used in Kenya such as National parks, game reserves and sanctuaries found in Kenya .

National Parks are set up and controlled by the central government. They are established by an Act of Parliament or through legal notice by the Minister concerned, in the government gazette. Its boundaries or existence can only be altered by similar legislative action. National Parks are managed and controlled by government agencies. The agencies collect entry fees to the parks, take care of the animals and assist in resolving the people – animal conflict. The Safari Ndovu 6 day Safari package visits 2 (two) of these National Parks namely Amboseli and Lake Nakuru National Parks.

National Game reserves or National Reserves are set up and managed by the local authority where it is located. The local communities interact freely with the wildlife before such an area is declared a game reserve. Unlike National Parks, the local communities are allowed to live and graze their animals in game reserves. For example, the Maasai people live and graze their animals in Maasai Mara without being restricted by the management of the park. Game reserves may also be set up and owned and managed by private individuals with special permission from the Central Government. In Laikipia district, there are several game reserves that are privately owned and fenced off from the public. The Government has little control over what takes place in the privately-owned game ranches. Whereas the government has banned game hunting, animals in privately owned ranches are slaughtered to provide game meat to major hotels in Nairobi and Mombasa under licence from the Central Government. The Safari Ndovu 6 days Safari package visit 1 (one) reserve namely the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Wildlife Sanctuaries are areas that have been set aside for the protection of specific animals or birds if they are considered endangered for one reason or other. In an environment where elephants are threatened by poachers for example, a protected area is established and fenced off to host only elephants, where they are cared for and secured. Such an area is called an elephant sanctuary such as the Mwaluganje National reserve in Kwale Disctrict. The Safari Ndovu – 6 days package does not visit any sanctuary, however at Cruzeiro-safaris, one may request for a tailored safari to the Sweet Waters Sanctuary caring for Chimpanzees or any other Sanctuary.

The one eatery attraction in the Safari Ndovu – 6 days safari package itinerary is called the Carnivore Restaurant in Nairobi. Guests on the Amboseli National Reserve 3 days package safari or Lake Nakuru & Maasai Mara 4 days package safari may join in or drop off on pre-organised group tours after a sumptuous meal at the Carnivore, featuring various kinds of game meat. Carnivore is also known as the meat eaters’ paradise.

A recap of Safari Ndovu 6 days safari package is presented in http://www.slideshare.net/Cruzeirosafaris/safari-ndovu-elephant

Take part in the Land’s End Sport Relief event to raise money for charity

The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief event is to take place on March 25th 2012 and there are hundreds of locations from which members of the public can take part in this excellent charity run, but perhaps one of the most scenic is Land’s End, the extreme south westerly point of Britain.

Located in West Cornwall, Land’s End makes a stunning sight for tourists every year, but to make the most of this huge UK attraction while doing your bit for charity consider the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile. This event occurs every year and raises money for disadvantaged people within the UK, including young people with mental health difficulties, isolated older people and whole local communities that need help in order to improve residents’ lives.

Similar to all other Sport Relief locations, participants can choose between one mile, three miles or six miles when taking part in the Land’s End event, so people will be able to pick the best option for them. The choice of running the Sport Relief Mile at Land’s End offers up the opportunity to take in some incredible scenery while raising money for charity, so the event can be extra special.

David Bryans, General Manager of Land’s End said: “We’re thrilled to be working alongside the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile and would like to encourage members of the public to sign up for this event.

“Anyone can join in, but we think one of the best ways to do so is to sign up with a group of friends or as a family so that you can raise money for an excellent cause with your best friends and family members. It costs hardly anything to participate – £6 for adults, £3 for children or £15 for a family of four. If you want to help those who need it most sign up for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile at Land’s End today.”

To find out more about the Land’s End Sport Relief event, visit www.landsend-landmark.co.uk or go straight to the Sport Relief website to sign up.

Growing Love Of Outdoors Gives Rise To Camping Fever

Research* by cycling and leisure retailer Halfords reveals the surge in popularity of camping over the last two years shows no sign of slowing.

Extra days off this month and in May, generated by a late Easter, the Royal Wedding and multiple bank holidays, have prompted a rush of bookings for camping and caravan sites, with many workers planning short breaks in the UK rather than going abroad.

Normally 2.5 million Brits jet off for Easter*, but this year bookings for foreign travel are dramatically down, with less than one million planning to head for the Costas. This compares with 5.7 million who are due to holiday in the UK, 20 % of them (1.15m) under canvas.

Spending cutbacks and the threat of strikes has put people off travelling overseas, with 25% saying they had decided against the foreign holiday this year.

Only 20% said they would definitely head abroad for the sun, while over one in three, 35%, said they would be holidaying in the UK. 18% said they couldn’t afford a holiday while the remaining 27% were waiting for late deals or were yet to make their mind up.

The Camping and Caravanning Club reports a rise in advance bookings of 12% and a 25% rise in caravan and camping bookings for the next four weeks, compared to this time last year. Some campsites are already displaying “full” notices.

Halfords has seen growth in sales of camping equipment in the last few years. Cool boxes, tent packs, cycle carriers, roof boxes and pop up tents have all become increasingly popular in line with the trend to holidaying in the UK.

Halfords Camping Expert Paul Fensome said: “Customers tell us that camping is now a regular part of their holiday plans. They want great equipment at competitive prices – so they can enjoy the break without breaking the bank.

“Camping also adds to the amount of gear to transport so we are advising customers on the best travel solutions, like roof boxes and helping them choose the right one and fitting it for them.”

The start of this year’s camping fever comes only weeks after the government’s new tourism strategy was announced, aiming to encourage growth of domestic breaks from the current 20% of all longer-stay trips (four nights or more) to 29%.

Robert Louden, Director General of the Camping and Caravanning Club said:
“Holidaying in Britain is more attractive than ever, with camping in particular allowing families to drop their stressful day-to-day routine and spend some quality time together.

“I think a lot of people are looking to make the most of the break by taking off the three days between bank holidays and our site bookings are reflecting this trend.”

Summer Heatwave – Use the RASH Guide

Each and every summer, the emergency services are called to trails and walking spots across the country to aid walkers who are suffering from heat exhaustion or heatstroke. Leading discount outdoor clothing specialists, outdoorlook.co.uk, has launched their new safety guide – RASH. The guide simplifies a 4-point-plan which can be easily picked up by anyone this summer. RASH is easy to remember and simple to put into action.

Summer Heatwave – Use the RASH Guide

1. REST – If you or a member of your walking party begins to feel ill or unwell, stop immediately and move to a cool shaded place. If you decide to continue, do so at a slower pace than before and keep a watchful eye on your friend or self.

2. AIR – Loosen any tight clothing and temporarily remove any items you can (t-shirt). If there is a breeze, stand against it, as this will help draw heat away from the body and help you cool down quicker. Place any clothes you may of removed against the breeze too, as when you put your clothes back on, they will be cooler.

3. SIP – When aiding either a friend or yourself with a drink, remember it is important the drink contains no alcohol or caffine, as these will only add to the dehydration. As tempting as it may be to finish a drink off by gulping it down, remember to sip the drink slowly so your stomach is given enough time to process the fluids efficiently.

4. HELP – If whoever is ill still shows no sign of sufficient recovery, call for help immediately. Heat exhaustion can lead to heat-stroke which is some extreme cases can be fatal.

Ian Brookes, founder and managing director of outdoorlook.co.uk said: “The RASH guide is aimed at everyone who is out and about this summer. With forecasters already suggesting we may be in for a heatwave, the guide aims to give some quick, easy and memorable advice to anyone who needs it.”

Brookes also highlighted having the appropriate outdoor clothing as a measure of also staying safe. “Simple tricks like wearing a hat will keep your head cool and also shade your eyes from the glare of the sun. Light coloured clothing will reflect rather than absorb the sun’s heat, whilst wearing walking shoes with proper ankle support with make for a safe and comfortable walk.”

Seasoned Traveller Sam Baker Launches New Outdoor Blog

With the summer climate starting to infiltrate British shores, outdoor enthusiast Sam Baker has come inside and decided to share his years of outdoors expertise, through his new outdoors-based blog; outdoorsblog.co.uk.

Seasoned Traveller Sam Baker Launches New Outdoor Blog

The idea for the blog came after Baker returned from a 2-month trip steering through the mountainous and picture-perfect roads of New Zealand, stopping off for regular doses of the greenest-of-earth and extreme activities along the way. It was the tip-of-the-iceberg for Baker, who wanted to see if he could put into words just how much fun can be had outdoors.

“The blog was born out of the inspiration the great outdoors provides me. It allowed a space to be created where I could share my experiences, travel tips and outdoor related news.” Says editor, Sam Baker.

The blog features topical news from the outdoors, including the recent uncertainty around who was the first climber to scale Mount Everest, whilst regularly keeping its readers’ up-to-speed with Ed Stafford’s record-breaking attempt at walking the length of the Amazon River to raise awareness around conservation issues.

It is topical stories which the blog blends with travel advice and destination guides, such as the recent Singapore and India posts. The guides are informative and written in an engaging writing style. The blog encapsulates the best multimedia from around the web too, retrieving pictures and videos of the most relevant and highest quality, such as the now famous ‘Sandpit’ video and National Geographic trailers.

The Gap Between Budget Hotels And Hostels Appears To Be Over Thanks To The Emergence Of Modernized And Newly Renovated Hostels

Hostels are becoming more contemporary, with the freshest, upbeat hostels in New York now considered an ideal choice for budget travelers that expect comfort and quality but at the same time, want to save money. Hotels, on the other hand, favor consistency and meeting business standards.

HostelBookers, the budget accommodation specialist, underlines how hostels today differ to those of yesteryear. Great value for money, they tend to keep the costs to a minimum whilst offering other benefits that are hard to find in hotels. The biggest advantage of staying in a hostel is that they are very social places. Many offer free Wi-Fi, private rooms (many of which are en suite), communal entertainment rooms packed with luxuries such as a big screen TVs or surround sound cinemas, the latest video games, and even pool tables. With access to well-equipped kitchens and dining areas guests can avoid pricy restaurants and opting for hostels in great central locations make exploring the city more convenient.

Two examples of top hostels are all located in New York: Jazz on the Park hostel is perfect for budget travelers looking to experience a real community feel or seeking a little fun. Located in the hip Upper West Side, the property offers guests use of a kitchen, a games area, laundry facilities, and internet connections.

Jeremy Poon of Broadway Hotel & Hostel advises that “many people, especially in the US, have an opinion of hostels which simply isn’t true; our boutique hostel combines the best of both worlds. We have created an environment where people can experience culture and affordability in style, and we aim to dispel Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Hostel’ myth. We believe working with sites like HostelBookers can only help us in our aim as they raise the standards across the industry”.

Broadway Hotel and Hostel is located in the Upper West Side and boasts a selection of amenities not found in most traditional hotel such as a home-cinema system.
