UK Consumers Continue their Love Affair with Brochures

Despite the massive growth in sales of holidays via the Internet in the past few years, it seems that UK consumers are still keen on researching their next holiday using a traditional brochure.

Whilst it’s possible to book a holiday via the internet, over the counter in a Travel Agency or by post – it appears that people still love to flick through the brochure and then follow it up with a chat on the phone!

According to research carried out by one of the UK’s leading tour operators, Haven Holidays, demand for traditional brochures is growing despite the massive rise in the number of people who choose to complete their booking online. In fact, the number of brochure requests being received is reaching record numbers!

“Even people who have already booked their Easter holidays via our website ask for our literature to be sent to them as well”. Whilst people like the ease and convenience of booking on-line and take advantage of extensive multimedia on websites including videos and virtual tours, it seems that many families still enjoy the convenience of browsing through a brochure as they plan their holidays.

“People still love to browse through a brochure,” say Haven Holidays. Despite the rise in on-line bookings it seems more people than ever are requesting caravan holidays brochures. “This year we had 25% more brochure requests from new customers than we received the previous year.” Haven’s new 2010 UK Holidays brochure was released during the first week of November and the new version of the website went live to the public on November 6th. Both feature 35 family holiday parks around the UK. Family spring breaks at a wide choice of parks start at as little as £99 for a family of four in Superior accommodation.

People Still Love To Browse Through A Brochure, Say Haven Holidays

Despite the rise in on-line bookings it seems more people than ever are requesting holiday brochures. ‘This year we had 25% more brochure requests from new customers than we received the previous year,’ said a spokesperson for the brand. ‘Even people who have already booked a holiday via our website often ask for our literature to be sent to them as well. Whilst people like the ease and convenience of booking on-line and love the videos of our parks they also enjoy the more tactile experience of reading the brochure and sharing their holiday plans with all the family.’

The research into brochure request figures was released soon after the Haven Call Centre was declared industry favourite in Britain’s biggest call centre awards. The Call Centre, which is based in Haven’s Head Offices in Hemel Hempstead achieved ratings of more than 90% in extensive mystery shopper surveys, despite answering 6% more calls than the previous year.

Whilst it’s possible to book a holiday via the internet, over the counter in a Travel Agency or by post – it appears that people still love to flick through the brochure and then follow it up with a chat on the phone!

New Concept In Shoe Protection Keeps Shoes Safe While Protecting Items In Bags From Dirt And Germs

Brilliant Widgets, LLC. has announced availability of their shoe socks(TM), the world’s first form-fitting stretchable protective shoe covers. They fit over your shoes just like a pair of socks fits over your feet. This prevents dirt and germs on your shoes from getting into your luggage, sports bags, or any other kind of bag that stores shoes. Shoe socks(TM) are thick cushioned for maximum protection against damaging objects in bags. They won’t snag or rip. Zippers and draw strings are non-existent so there is nothing to break like in competing products. They let you take advantage of all usable bag space.

shoe socks

According to studies done by ABCnews.com and Rockport, shoe soles can contain up to 9 species of harmful bacteria including E. Coli. Bacteria can live on your shoes for up to 3 days and have a 99% transfer rate to anything the soles touch. There is a risk of getting a bacterial infection if you wear or touch something that made contact with your shoes. Shoe socks(TM) prevent the bacteria from spreading by forming a barrier around your shoes. Because they are made of synthetic rubber, wet shoes are also protected.

They are extremely easy to use. The shoes are inserted into the shoe socks(TM), and they are stretched over the back of the shoe. Take them off when you are done. Throw them in the wash when they are dirty.

Company president Mark Ligeza says, “Our customers feel safe when shoe socks(TM) are used. They don’t have to worry about dirt or germs infecting their belongings. They are confident they are getting the best protection for their investment in shoes and their items especially in this tough economic environment.”

Shoe socks(TM) are guaranteed for life against defects in material and/or workmanship. They come in four different sizes to accommodate any men’s or women’s shoe sizes in any country.

About Brilliant Widgets, LLC.
The company develops and markets innovative products that make individual’s lives simpler. Shoe socks(TM) are the first of many products in the pipeline.

Iceland ProTravel Sees Massive Increase In Self Drive Breaks Around Iceland

Iceland ProTravel, the fully licensed tour operator, has reported a massive increase in UK travellers to Iceland, spurred by the favourable exchange rate between the Great British pound and the Icelandic krona.

Iceland ProTravel

Coupled with the fact that the average price of petrol is currently lower in Iceland than in the UK, Iceland ProTravel has been recommending a self drive holiday for travellers who are yet to make up their mind about where to go.

Having recently taken top spot in the annual ‘Best Value Holiday Destinations’ report carried out by the Post Office, Iceland is expected to see even greater interest as a holiday destination. In response, Iceland’s main airline is increasing its number of flights from the UK to Iceland in September 2009.

As the pound continues to lose value against the euro, there are only three countries in Europe where UK tourists can expect a favourable exchange rate: Iceland, Hungary and Poland.

Eli Masson, general manager of Iceland ProTravel, said: “We recommend to our clients that they go to Iceland this summer and autumn because of the favourable exchange rate.

“On our self drive tours we find that all our clients this summer have over budgeted their spending money. One pound will get you 209 krona now, but 18 months ago you would only get 130.

“We feel that the interest in Iceland has increased a lot and we have seen that numbers of people travelling there has doubled from last year.”

While most visitors to Iceland travel to the capital – and many more expected to be in Reykjavik for the city’s marathon in August – Iceland ProTravel is recommending more people make Iceland breaks and look into car rental in order to explore the savings and the full length and breadth of Iceland.

Flights from Iceland take three hours from London. Flights to Reykjavik are also available from Manchester, with Glasgow flights planned for later in the year.

About Iceland ProTravel
Iceland ProTravel is a UK based company offering tours of Iceland, managed by Gudmundur Kjartansson and Ann Cathrin Brocker. As well as standard guided round trips, Iceland ProTravel offers adventure, hiking, city-breaks and horseback tours.

Iceland ProTravel UK is part of a family of tour operators that are based in Germany, Switzerland and Sweden. It also has an office in Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik.

Toursbylocals.Com Helps Travelers Get A Better Travel Experience While Directly Benefiting The People Who Provide Those Travel Experiences

Since its launch in November of 2008, ToursByLocals has been kept busy talking to local people interested in using theToursByLocals system to offer their services as private guides. According to Greg Scott,

Content Manager for ToursbyLocals, “In the past 2 months, we’ve received 97 applications and successfully processed 50 of them, with each guide posting an average of 2 tours”. Continues Scott, “Our vetting process means that each guide must pass an interview and reference check before being added to the system. We have a number of professional tour guides using the system, but we’re particularly pleased to see an increasing number of locals who are using the system to offer ‘their’ experience in the place they live”.

As you might expect, ToursByLocals offers an eclectic selection of tours. As well as sightseeing tours, guides are encouraged to offer tours that reflect their interests and passions. Says Scott, “We suggest each guide offer a tour that they might do if a friend was visiting for the first time. But we also encourage them to offer something out of the ordinary. The tours each guide lists on their profile are just suggestions and travelers can always contact the guide if they have a special request”

Some of the current offerings that fall into the ‘unusual’ category include a young Brazilian man from Belo Horizonte who will take you to the local stadium where you will experience the madness of 106,000 people at a Brazilian soccer match. Or an Icelandic guide who will take you to the best place to see the Northern Lights. Another tour features a young Russian woman from Rybinsk who will take you on a tour of her traditional Russian village.

New guides and tours are being added on a daily basis.

Ciclismo Classico, one of the country’s leading bicycle vacation companies, expands its trip destinations by now offering biking vacations in Vietnam, New Zealand and Chile/Argentina

In an effort to expand beyond Europe and to uphold its mission to discover the best bicycling routes in the world, Ciclismo Classico, one of the country’s premier bicycle tour companies, has added three new regions to explore, giving travelers the opportunity to cycle during the fall and winter from October – March. For its 2008-2009 season, Ciclismo Classico has added Chile & Argentina, New Zealand and Vietnam.

When we started 20 years ago, our focus was on Italy,” says Ciclismo founder and cycling enthusiast Lauren Hefferon. “Over the years we added France, Spain, New England and many others continuing our goal of offering an array of safe, healthy, fun vacations that span Europe and immerse our riders in the culture and cuisine of the country they’re visiting. Now, with the addition of three new continents to our trip menu, new and returning cyclists will experience touring the Ciclismo Classico way in places where the lands are ripe with discovery and the dollar goes a bit farther.”

The company, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, has put together these three new tours, all of which include local guides, a fully-outfitted bicycle rental, accommodations and meals, cultural excursions, travel planning and more:

Chile and Argentina – debuts October 25, 2008
Ciclismo’s South American tour is the only one of its kind and offers the option of an 8-day base trip or a 10-day extended trip. Riders will cycle nearly 200 miles of scenic mountain routes with the snow-capped Andes nearby. Along the way, you’ll get the chance to ride by the Seven Lakes, visit five national parks, take a hike to Petrohue Falls, stop at the Curarrehue Museum and soak in the Huife hot springs. The additional two days will feature a trip to Santiago and the Colchagua Valley, an exclusive discussion about Chilean wines with a local sommelier, three private winery visits, and a horse-drawn carriage ride through the Vina Viu Manent’s vineyard. The 8-day trip starts at $3.795/person. The two night post-trip extension is an additional $1,195.

New Zealand – debuts November 16, 2008
This itinerary offers the choice between the base 10-day trip and an extended 14-day stay. The nearly 300-mile journey on the South Island starts in Christchurch and continues along New Zealand’s west coast and through the Southern Alps. During the bike tour, guests will ride the TranzAlpine Train, one of the world’s greatest scenic railway journeys. In addition to great biking, guests will witness a jade carving demonstration, hike to the base of the Fox Glacier in Westland National Park, go sea kayaking, and even visit a sheep farm. The extended package includes an overnight cruise on Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound, the opportunity to ride an additional 100+ miles, a stay in Te Anau, a ride to the shores of Lake Wakatipu, and a steamship ride to Queenstown. The 10-day trip starts at $3,995/person. The optional four night post-trip extension is an additional $1,895.

Vietnam – debuts October 25, 2008
This 11-day ride from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) features more than 200 miles of scenic and cultural cycling including riverside riding, coastal explorations, mountain passes, rolling hills and small villages. Riders will get the chance to see a traditional water puppet performance in Hanoi, experience a garden and tea stop while cycling through Hue and boat to the Coral Islands off Nha Trang. The itinerary also features exclusive visits to the homes of four Vietnamese experts, a boat cruise on the Perfume River and a ride to the famous Cu Chi tunnels. Guests also have the option to extend this trip for four days for a visit to Angkor Wat, Cambodia, where they will explore the city of Angkor Thom, visit the famous temple complex and a local Cambodian orphanage. The 11-day trip starts at $3,995/person, and the three night post-trip extension is an additional $1,275.

These tours are designed for small groups of between 14 and 18 guests, so space is very limited. A $500 deposit is required to make a reservation.
