Shrewsbury Travel Branch Collects Christmas Gifts For Women’s Aid Charity

Generous-spirited people have got behind a gift appeal in Shrewsbury to help women and children spending Christmas in a refuge.

The Midcounties Co-op Travel branch, cooptravel.co.uk, in the town centre has asked colleagues, customers, local businesses and the general public to donate new toiletries, toys and clothing for the appeal.

Around 50 gifts have already been donated at the branch in Pride Hill and the collection continues until 12 December.

Organiser Kate Walmsley, Senior Travel Advisor, said: “The gifts will be wrapped and presented to our charity partner Women’s Aid who will distribute them to refuges in the region. We would like to thank everyone who has given so far; we have been touched by their support.

“I’m sure it will lift the spirit of the families who receive the gifts this Christmas to know that the community at large is thinking of them.”

The Midcounties Co-op Travel, a locally owned and independent business, is part of community retailer The Midcounties Co-operative. Midcounties is supporting charity partner Women’s Aid, the key national charity working to end domestic violence against women and children.

Its businesses have been raising funds and awareness to support the charity’s work nationally and eleven local services that operate within its trading areas, including refuges at Shropshire, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Wyre Forest, Warwickshire, Wycombe, Oxfordshire, The Forest of Dean and Gloucestershire.

Colleagues are also giving their time to volunteering projects and getting involved in campaign work for Women’s Aid.

Leading Route Car’s Heathrow Taxi Driver Given £135 Tip

When it comes to delivering excellent service, sometimes there’s no limit to the amount your customers are willing to pay. A taxi driver working for one of the leading Heathrow taxi services, Leading Route Cars, received an unexpected £135 tip from a young Australian couple he picked up by taxi from Heathrow Airport.

The couple had got into the cab after a long flight, and after checking their luggage had realised that they had in fact picked up the wrong bag. Upon notifying the taxi driver, the young couple were driven back to the Heathrow terminal they were picked up from, free of charge, to reclaim their luggage.

Upon arriving at the terminal, the couple requested that the taxi driver wait for them to pick up the luggage, and then drive them to Central London – waiting for another taxi would further prolong their journey when really, all they wanted to do was get to their hotel and rest. The taxi driver agreed, and waited around without levying any further charges than otherwise can be considered reasonable.

However, the Leading Route Car’s taxi driver went a step further, yet again. Not only did he drive them back to the terminal, but he took it upon himself to negotiate with the airport staff and after various ID checks were made, he helped the couple relocate their “lost” luggage.

In the forthcoming month, and after returning to London, the couple again contacted Leading Route Cars and made a special request to be driven by the driver who was so helpful the previous month. The request was granted and the couple went onto make many more journeys with Leading Route Cars throughout the month.

Finally, a few weeks later the couple requested another journey with the same driver and this time he made the trip to a location he had become very familiar with – the couple’s family home in London. The couple asked to be taken back to Heathrow Airport and, upon arrival, and due to the excellent service offered by the driver, one of the couple left him a few extra notes in his hand.

The driver wished the couple a happy journey and set about on his way. Only a short while later did he realise the extent of his “tip” – £135 for a very professional service which delivered well above expectations.

MyLondonInfo Now Listing Upwards Of 1,000 Restaurants

MyLondonInfo has announced it now boasts a list of more than 1,000 restaurants in the Central London region. Having partnered with livebookings.com, the MyLondonInfo website now offers an online booking functionality for the majority of these restaurants. Not only will users be able to book their preferred time and venue but they will also be able to take advantage of special offers and deals made available by the restaurants.

Now in its second year, MyLondonInfo is keen to offer its listed restaurants the opportunity to interact electronically with their customers. In order to promote this, restaurant customers are encouraged to leave reviews, both good and bad. These reviews are published on the individual London restaurants page as well as on a scroll bar on the Mylondoninfo homepage. Users are also encouraged to contact the restaurants directly through the website interface. All reviews are then published and enquiries are followed up by the Mylondoninfo team to ensure everybody is happy.

The majority of the restaurant listings are focused on the West End including Piccadilly Restaurants and Soho Restaurants. Both of these areas are ideal for a pre-theatre London meal. Many of the restaurants offer very generous deals to those who will vacate their tables by 19:30.
