Etihad Airways Celebrates Five Years Of Milan-Abu Dhabi

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has celebrated five years of non-stop services between Milan and Abu Dhabi. The UAE flag carrier operates daily between the two cities.

Flights from Milan commenced in September 2007, and based on strong forward bookings and projections, Etihad Airways is on track to carry almost 140,000 passengers between the two cities in 2012, up 27 per cent on 2011.

Speaking at a media conference in Milan to mark the anniversary, Etihad Airways’ President and Chief Executive Officer, James Hogan said: “The UAE is home to almost 7,000 Italians and 200 Italian companies, and as a result, the business and cultural ties between the two countries have never been stronger.

“In five years, the Abu Dhabi-Milan route has gone from strength to strength, being a catalyst for business and leisure traffic between the two countries and the wider Gulf region. We’ve carried 417,000 passengers and 71,000 tons of cargo in that time.

“Our strategy here in Italy, as elsewhere internationally, has been built on the premise of partnerships and we’re proud to have teamed-up with many esteemed Italian names in the rollout of our award winning services.”

Etihad Airways has partnered with fashion designer Ettore Bilotta in the design of its crew uniforms and Poltrona Frau for the leather upholstery in its multi-award winning First Class Suites and luxury seating in the airline’s own signature premium lounges.

In addition, the airline has recently extended its partnership with Alitalia which will see the Italian carrier operate four weekly codeshare services between Rome and Abu Dhabi from December 1, 2012.

Mr Hogan added: “Extending our partnership agreement with Alitalia to cover direct Rome-Abu Dhabi flights was a natural next step in our close cooperation with this valued airline partner and we look forward to working together to promote the route at each end and beyond.

“Direct from Rome, Alitalia guests will now be able access the UAE capital, but also connect seamlessly with Etihad Airways destinations across the Gulf, Africa, Asia and Australia.

“The deal also gives Etihad Airways guests direct access into the Italian capital with strong flows predicted from the Gulf region, Australia and Asia.”

Etihad Airways operates a mix of three and two-cabin Airbus A330s between Abu Dhabi and Milan, ensuring optimum connectivity over its Abu Dhabi hub to destinations across Africa, the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent and Australasia.

The Milan route configuration means 3,500 seats a week; 56 Diamond First class, 360 Pearl Business class, and 3,084 Coral Economy class seats.

Mr Hogan concluded: “By year end, Etihad Airways will be a US$4.9 billion business, we’ll have carried more 10 million passengers across our global network, and have 1.8 million Etihad Guest loyalty members.

“Working closely with our Italian partners, the travel industry, the business community and governments, we look forward to further cementing the Etihad Airways brand across Italy and deepening the strong relationship between Italy and the United Arab Emirates.”

British Airways Upgrades Website With New Look Homepage

British Airways has upgraded its website, ba.com, with the addition of a completely new homepage.

The ba.com homepage has been comprehensively redesigned to make it easier to use and navigate, as well as making it more inviting and accessible to customers. Striking imagery has been added throughout the page with clearer information on products, services and offers.

Andy Newman, British Airways’ ba.com manager, said: “First impressions count, which is why we’ve devoted so much time in making sure that our award-winning website is even better at engaging our customers, from the first click.

“Ease of use is a key principle we bring to all our digital channels, so we’ve developed a new easier way of navigating around ba.com, with a clearer ‘Manage My Booking’ area and a better use of evocative destination images to help inspire customers and make the most of their trip.”

The last time major design changes were made to ba.com was in 2005. Over the past year, ba.com has been rolling out a series of continued improvements. This includes new ways of presenting flights to show the ticket costs across multiple cabins with information on what service, baggage allowance and dining options customers can enjoy.

Design agency HUGE worked closely with ba.com on the design prototype of the new homepage through to the final agreed design, which was then built by the airline’s in-house team.

Newman continued: “British Airways is always striving to improve the customer experience and we want this excellence to begin with ba.com. We’ve started with the homepage and will continue to unveil the new look across ba.com as part of our continued investment in customer-focused digital channels.”

ba.com has also recently developed new ways to inspire customers to choose their flights, through Tripseeker, and the Holiday Finder. A lowest fares feature also enables customers to choose when to fly to destinations around the world, by searching for the lowest available fares.

The value calculator, introduced in June 2009, provides customers with the information to compare the value of British Airways flights with the cost of no-frills airlines.

Other technological investments by British Airways for its customers have been to provide mobiles apps and mobile boarding passes across all major mobile phone platforms, for iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Windows Phones. Over 1.7m mobile boarding passes have been downloaded since they were introduced in July 2010.

ba.com offers over 600 destinations for sale, with flights operated by British Airways across its global network and its partners, such as Iberia, Qantas and American Airlines.

From last week, bmi flights in and out of London Heathrow were made available to book on ba.com, including flights to Azerbaijan, Ireland, Kazakhstan and flights to Sierra Leone as well as being available to book through flybmi.com.

ba.com was awarded Best Airline Website by Travolution for the past two years.

Ash Cloud Chaos Lifts As Rail and Sea Facilities Are Stretched

The Met office has today stated that its early predictions of a possible major disruption for UK flights on Friday and over the saturday and sunday straight to Monday at the moment are not likely to come to fruition and that it’s now “more hopeful” that travel arrangements will be able to continue as normal.

This about turn is pleasant news for visitors in britain and around the globe who might have been wanting to traverse the constrained region through the weekend break. Particularly those travelling over the UK, Ireland, Germany, Scotland and also over Scandinavia and currently the volcano seems to have ceased its eruption.

However, following last years “ash cloud” chaos some tourists stay cautious and are choosing to book rail and ferry seats other than jeopardizing the potential for air traffic closure which may interrupt their plans. This has stretched travel companies with firms including DDDS Seaways and Eurostar including additional services to address the increased need.

Russ Beech, representative of travel at mega.co.uk claimed “after last years ash cloud horror, people are reluctant to adopt risking potential disruption. It is right that where safety is concerned the Met office take a cautions approach and with such top quality rail and ferry companies in The european union individuals reserving last minute are prudently arranging the option with the least danger by staying away from air travel”.

Happily, lots of lessons were found out a year ago and the Met office is appearing to be to be much less cautious in its tactic yet flight companies including Ryanair think that flights and client confidence might have been damaged unjustifiably.

Travel Industry for Lift As Flight Duty Tax Is Frozen In The UK – Mega.co.uk

The UK’s most well regarded travel and air travel providers who have recently themselves discussed adding a gasoline surcharge to their consumer prices to beat the escalating gasoline costs have really welcomed the most recent media statement from the UK Chancellor revealing a flight duty freeze within the impending spending budget.

Thomson and Thomas Cook, a pair of of the UK’s major holiday companies are intending to include a charge on each travellers journey cost in an effort to pass on to customers the vastly increased fuel charges. The charge levels will probably be between £15.00 and £40.00 with holidays in Greece and Spain likely to face a surcharge of around £25.00.

This has been incredibly disturbing news for an international travel marketplace that is currently witnessing diminished holidaymaker volumes as a result of recession. It had been considered by some in the industry that the strategy would put a large number of English households off scheduling offshore holidays this season which would be catastrophic for some overseas resorts.

The earthquake turmoil in Asia and also the riots in Libya has resulted in additional conjecture inside the power sector and gas costs are yet again
unpredictable and likely to increase. It has not yet been identified if these holiday companies might have to increase these surcharges even further if fuel prices continue to rise.

Though, the industry was lifted buy some news from the government. With the United Kingdom budget days away the finance Chancellor George Osbourne has tossed the sector a lifeline suggesting that APD (air passenger duty) is going to be held at its current rate, information that has been made welcome buy both tourist firms and money strapped tourists.

A spokesperson for popular consumer deal internet site Mega.co.uk, explained “this latest government news is a desired relief for the tourist industry. Low cost travel offers like the Alpharooms discount code have always been popular. We have however recently seen more and more people searching for a Thomson discount code to bring down the cost of their holiday and if the surcharge goes on we expect this trend to continue. We also expect it to push some holiday makers out of the market completely.” “We do however see the news from the government as a welcome relief in a travel market that has been battered over the last couple of years”.

easyJet Gives New Flexibility To Get Disrupted Passengers Home

easyJet, this evening announced that to enable more people to get to their destination in time for the festive period, it is to allow its passengers who have been disrupted to transfer their return flights free of charge to any airport served by the airline.

easyJet flies to 122 airports in 29 countries and this innovative move will give new options for those passengers whose flights were unfortunately cancelled due to the adverse weather over the weekend. easyJet is planning to operate around 1000 flights a day during the festive period – providing over 150,000 seats for passengers.

easyJet, the largest UK and 4 th biggest European carrier, is doing everything it can to look after its passengers. Despite the closure of a number of airports this morning and the knock on effect of the weekend’s weather the airline is planning to operate over 800 flights today – around 85% of its flying programme.

Since the start of the recent bad weather, easyJet has experienced a dramatic increase in emails/calls from its passengers. To assist its passengers it has recruited 180 additional contact centre staff and is doing the best it can to keep up with the high volume of contacts.

TravelSpec Reveals Brits Are Banking On A Summer Holiday

A survey by TravelSpec reveals that Brits are saving money this Christmas, but most will go over their holiday budget in Summer.

Brits are at the old saving game again this Christmas, with over 58% of people saying that they are canceling budget busting parties and extravagant presents for a more cost effective holiday season.

The poll findings – From a recent OnePoll.com survey commissioned by TravelSpec.com, a flight comparison website that supplies cheap flights to MiamiFlights to LondonFlights to Chicago and cheap flights to Paris – revealed that the majority of Brits will be cutting back on the big budget Christmas celebrations this year.

These recent finding come as no surprise after the Government took drastic steps to try to decrease the UK’s massive debt. The cuts to the Department for Tourism and the Governments promise to raise domestic flight tax may explain why domestic flight traffic has dropped by 3%.

Due to the drop in British tourism the average cost of a British holiday has risen leaving Brits to pay through their noses for a holiday in their own country.

86% of Brits said that they would not give up their holiday in the sun. Even though brits are cutting costs, 94% of Brits will still go up to £500 over budget when they go on holiday. It is probably no surprise that Heathrow airport recorded its busiest September ever this year, proving that people are getting out of the country for at least a week.

Discount Travel Website Doing Their Bit for Cancer Research

Lastsecondeals.com is a discount travel website with a modern design and a different outlook as to their Business goals and mission statement. The website was officially launched in early 2010 although had been on the internet since April 2009. David Lynch the owner of lastsecondeals.com said l took my time with designing the website as l wanted a more modern feel about the site and have an open plan design than the conventional sites of today. I hope that people will warm to the new era in website design and l guess time will tell.

Next David worked feverishly searching the internet to source the best travel companies online to be in partnership with and strike up a mutual agreement in securing unique prices and special deals for his website customers through their special travel portals links. These travel portal links were especially designed and created solely for Lastsecondeals and their customers by their partner websites and David couldn’t be happier with the pricing and services they provide.

This has a win win situation for both David’s customers and himself as he is able to secure cheap flight tickets up to 75% off and hotel deals whereby his customers can save up to 50% or even 60% on room rates at top hotels around the world. These discounts would also include car rentals and on cruises worldwide.

The companies’ number one goal has been to give the customers the chance to have that dream destination holiday of their choice that may have been out of reach in the past due to circumstances, whether it was finances or a low income etc which prevented them from fulfilling their dream vacation. Hopefully this site will make it possible for them to afford that dream break now and have that holiday they so deserve.

The win win take David was talking about was that his site lastsecondeals.com donates 25% of its takings each month to the American Cancer Research Society. David like a lot of us has lost friends, relatives and family to this disease none closer to his heart than his father who a few months back had a relapse of his cancer and circumed to the disease.
