Voyages Jules Verne Announces Relaunch Of Burma Tours

Voyages Jules Verne (VJV) has announced the relaunch of its tours to Burma (also known as Myanmar), following the reopening of tourism to the country. The move has been endorsed by the Free Burma movement.

Burma was the winner of the Wanderlust Travel Award 2011 for Best Emerging Destination. This award recognises countries that were visited by relatively small numbers of Wanderlust readers during the last year, but which gained very high marks from those who did go. Burma holidays emerged at the top of the pile and is a country that, in the past six months, has gone from being the world’s most controversial travel destination to, potentially, its most exciting.

Voyages Jules Verne is pleased to be able to offer again comprehensive 14-night tours to Burma, including the remote cities of Mandalay and Pagan (Bagan) on the banks of the Irrawaddy, and Rangoon (Yangon). Travellers looking to enjoy Far East holidayscan take in the breathtaking sights that Burma has to offer including the amazingPagodas of Pagan. Those taking part in the tour of Burma with VJV will get to enjoy a private candle-lit dinner at an exclusively reserved pagoda in Pagan.

David F. Pattison, Head of Product and Marketing at VJV said: “We were delighted to hear that Aung San Suu Kyi had recently given her blessing to the return of tourism to Burma but we still considered our position carefully before deciding to return to the country. There will always be differing views about Burma but it is now felt that the controlled entry of visitors will now help create and sustain jobs for locals and boost the private economy. With communication and information previously restricted, Burma is now more exposed to the outside world and opens up the possibility of two-way exchanges between foreign visitors and the ordinary Burmese people.”

It was 15 years ago that Burma’s National League for Democracy (NLD) and its leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, first called for a tourism boycott as a way of denying foreign currency and moral legitimacy to the country’s military dictatorship. That 1996 declaration – vigorously upheld by pressure groups worldwide, including British organisations Tourism Concern and Burma Campaign UK – meant that any visit to the country was fraught with ethical complexity.

Following the release of Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest in November 2010, the NLD announced that they were no longer opposed to all tourism, but only to large-scale package tourism.

easyjet Crowns Royal Look-a-like Couple

easyJet, the UK’s largest airline, has crowned Simon Watkinson, 29, from London and Orsola Rossi, 29, from Milan as the most convincing Prince William & Kate Middleton look-a-likes across the whole of Europe.

Simon and Orsola joined 20 Will and Kate look-a-likes from more than 10 European countries in London where they competed for the ultimate title of best Will and Kate doubles and won a year’s worth of free easyJet flights each.

Besides being a mirror image of the Royal love birds, they had to impress the judges by waving like a Royal, acting out a romantic wedding proposal and throwing the bridal bouquet.

Simon Watkinson said: “I’ve often been told that I look like Prince William, particularly since the Royal engagement was announced, but I can’t believe that I’ve been crowned the winner. I’m so excited to have won a year’s worth of free easyJet flights and to be in London for the big day.”

Orsola Rossi said: “To be voted the best double to one of the most famous women in the world is very exciting. This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity and there isn’t a better place to be to enjoy the celebrations.”

Paul Moore, Communications Director at easyJet said: “The competition has been fierce with hundreds applying to be crowned the best Will and Kate look-a-likes Europe has to offer. However, Simon and Orsola stood out as they bear such a striking resemblance to our future King & Queen.

“It has been great fun to fly look-a-likes from all over Europe to London to enjoy the wedding celebrations and crown our very own easyJet Royal couple.”

Hundreds of Will and Kate wannabes from across Europe entered the competition to be in with a chance to be flown by easyJet to London for the grand final and be crowned the winner.

Simon and Orsola will stay in London to watch the real Royal wedding celebrations and take in the sights of the city with a friend courtesy of easyJet.

A recent survey conducted by easyJet Holidays revealed that 63 % of those polled would be watching the Royal Wedding, however only 8% would actually be heading to London for the celebration. 88.9 % of the total number preferring to take advantage of the full 11 day break to get away, with holidays to Spain revealing themselves as the most popular choice for beach holidays with 35% of the vote.

More Travel press releases Has High Hopes For Its Park Tours, the escorted tour consolidator, is hoping that April’s 2012 Olympic ticket application frenzy, which caused the official site to stall and the deadline to be extended for an extra hour, will rejuvenate interest in tours to London’s Olympic Park.

The escorted tour consolidator offers coach tours to the Park with a number of tour operators over more than 25 departure dates between June and January 2012. Tours have been on sale since autumn last year, and while there has been steady interest in those wishing to visit the East End venue since the start of 2011, packages to annual events such as the Wimbledon and Royal Ascot have so far outsold those to the Park four-fold.

Major factors likely to have diluted initial interest are the Royal Wedding and the incompletion of the Stadium, which was under construction until 29th March. It is expected that with patriotism riding high, the last piece of turf laid down in the Stadium and Olympic ticket payment imminent, all eyes should revert to the 2012 Games.

Kate Glanfield, web manager of commented: “Now that the ticket deadline has bought the Olympics to the forefront of people’s minds, and after the excitement of the Royal Wedding, we should start to see a rejuvenated interest for Olympic Park tours. We’re expecting this to increase by June especially, when applicants will find out for sure whether their entries have been successful. As we’ve seen with the Royal Wedding and our other events, the real peak is expected in the run-up to the Games themselves.”

Visitors taking an Olympic Park tour can enjoy a sneak-peak of the Park before it opens, get to watch the development unfold from the VIP viewing gallery and learn about how the project is transforming the capital.

ReClaim electronic luggage tags include online itineraries and 24/7 live customer service to help prevent lost or delayed checked bags

Many air travelers are frustrated by the fact that paying additional fees for checked bags doesn’t guarantee that their bags will get to their correct destination, on time. “Mishandled” is the industry term for bags that don’t reach the right destination, at the right time. That covers a lot of ground; in 2010 the industry as a whole mishandled over 29 million bags, according to the 2011 SITA Baggage Report.

An emerging trend that may provide airline travelers with some reassurance that their bags will get to the correct destination is the introduction of sophisticated luggage tags with functionality that goes well beyond traditional luggage tags. Some of the latest luggage tags even include live agents available 24/7 and online itineraries. The thinking behind this new generation of bag tags is that airport officials around the world don’t have equal access to a bag’s itinerary—and if the original airline paper barcode tag is missing or unreadable, that bag may sit for days while those officials try to determine the correct owner and destination.

Connxys Technology’s new ReClaim luggage service, is designed to prevent that from happening. “The whole idea behind our electronic luggage tags, which include online itineraries and 24/7 live agents, is that if the original airline barcode tag is missing or unreadable, an airport official at any airport in the world, at any time of the day, can reach us and quickly confirm where your bag should go, so you can reduce the odds that your bag will be lost or delayed for days on end,” said Cleveland Motley, the founder and CEO of Connxys Technology.

The new luggage tags offer another benefit for travelers as well: identity security. “The reality is that getting your luggage to the right place, at the right time, is complicated by a number of things, including missed connections, last minute check-ins, misread barcodes, and incompatible information technology systems globally. But we can add an additional level of protection by making it quick and easy to determine where your bag needs to go, regardless of what handling system or operator is touching it”, he noted, “and do it without putting your personal information and flight information on the tag itself, for the world to see.”

ReClaim, like other leading manufacturers of advanced luggage tags, stores all passenger and flight information on secure servers, not on the tag itself. The net effect is that that harmless looking fellow next to you in the check-in line won’t be able to note your name, home address, home phone number, email address, or any other way you may have identified your bag in the past. As identity theft becomes a larger problem, that’s an increasingly important benefit.

Visit Facteurs Factices in Paris for Peculiar Post Boxes

The Opera Bastille is hosting a production of Tosca this spring that harnesses the energy and passion of the medium to tell one of the most celebrated stories in history.

Written by Giacomo Puccini, the show has been seen by millions of people since premiering in Rome in 1900, but it continues to attract audiences all over the world.

It will be performed on various dates between April 20th and May 18th 2011, with Iano Tamar in the title role. Massimo Giordano and Carlo Ventre will share the part of Mario Cavaradossi.

The Opera Bastille representative went on to suggest that Tosca captures the energy of the genre better than any other piece.

It is based on the French-language play La Tosca by Victorien Sardou.

Tickets for the production start from €5 (£4.40), with evening performances starting at 19:30 local time and matinees at 14:30. features a huge selection of accommodation for theatre goers, including romantic hotels in Paris in the Opera neighbourhood.

Ubud Invite to Come Back to Your Senses in June 2011 announces that Ubud is offering an exclusive retreat that incorporates yoga and techniques to be aware of stillness so that attendees can leave feeling totally refreshed.

Senses and Stillness Retreats – See, Feel, Touch, Be are designed to stimulate all of the senses by combining a mixture of disciplines. Through the practice of these disciplines the retreat aims to enable people to feel calmer within themselves and act as a balance to people’s busy schedules.

The programme mixes yoga with creative writing, Balinese culture and imagery which help attendees find their awareness of space and to be able to connect with the present. The use of imagery is done through camera work where people can learn to take pictures which help to provide stillness in what they’re doing. Along with the creative writing this helps to focus on what a person’s mind is thinking about to create meditative qualities.

The retreats are run by Vijoleta, a certified yoga teacher with more than 20 years of experience and Ketut who brings the Balinese influence and insight into the culture of the people.

The next retreat will run from 6th to 12th June 2011 in the mountains of Penestanan near Ubud and the number of people taking part in the course is expected to make finding a hotel in Ubud more difficult than usual.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at commented: “The retreats are popular with people that want an escape and this is reflected in the demand for hotels which can be fully booked during this time.”
