Revel in the glamour of Hollywood Costume at the V&A

Some of the biggest stars of Hollywood are landing at the Victoria & Albert Museum in Kensington this autumn – and there isn’t one bloated ego amongst them.

This October, the Hollywood Costume exhibition opens at the V&A – a museum renowned for its curatorial interest in textile, fashion and sartorial history – and it brings some of the most iconic dresses, suits and outfits of the silver screen to the hallowed halls of SW7.

From Dorothy’s red glitter shoes to John Travolta’s white suit from Saturday Night Fever, to some seriously elaborate Elizabethan ruffs taken from Cate Blanchett’s turn as Queen Elizabeth I, the exhibition combines displays of the clothing with interviews, photos and written information on the history of the films that birthed them.

There will also be interviews from some of the iconic stars who have worn the outfits on display – including Hollywood legend Robert De Niro. The V&A Museum, originally opened in 1852, was created to inspire British designers and manufacturers – and there is high hopes for this exhibition to inspire new generations, as well as summarise the work of the previous century.

To celebrate this exciting new arrival on the London museum, is happy to release numerous exclusive deals on London hotels in and around the Hyde Park area for visitors looking to make a special trip to the V&A.

The Fifty Four Boutique Hotel on Queen’s Gate – just a fewminutes’ walk from the V&A – has double rooms in its deluxe environs from £153 a night on the weekend of the 26th -28th October.

On the same dates, visitors can snap up a great bargain on the Millennium Baileys Hotel London Kensington, just outside Gloucester Road tube, from £152 on the Friday 26 th October.

Disney Classic Fantasia Coming to Albert Hall

It’s one of the crown jewels of the Disney canon, loved by successive generations in the 70 years since its original release. Now ‘Fantasia’ comes to London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall, for two exclusive showings, on October 21st, complete with accompaniment from the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

On its initial release in 1940, ‘Fantasia’ was a groundbreaking blend of symphonic music and the stunning animation of which Disney was already becoming veteran. Pairing music by classical composers from Tchaikovsky to Gershwin with the corporation’s iconic mouse, Mickey, ‘Fantasia’ spins a surreal tale of sorcery and fantasy, based on Dukas’ ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’.

Keith Lockhart conducts the London Philharmonic in this resurrection of an undying classic, which jumps from one dreamlike scene to the next, wowing viewers with trippy red mushrooms, dancing unicorns and ballerina hippos.

As with most Disney films of the era, the childlike sits alongside the deathly dark, juxtaposing themes of magic and morbidity to create a truly disturbing – and wonderful – effect which will delight audiences of all ages.

The air of exclusivity is heightened by the performance of just two shows, a 2.30 matinee followed by an evening’s re-run starting at 6.30. Tickets cost between £15 and £55, and are available directly from the Royal Albert Hall, as well as via the website. The site, which provides accommodation and ticketing for all major London events, has also announced details of reduced rates at London hotels in the area.

Among the hotels on offer, the Baglioni Hotel London, just 7 minutes’ walk from the Albert Hall, is offering a 67% discount on double rooms. The discount brings the cost of a night’s stay in this exclusive part of the city down to just £221.

Also on offer are rooms at the Fifty Four Boutique Hotel. When booking, a double room is currently available at a 93% discount – or £66 per night. Close to the Royal Albert Hall and London’s West End, it’s a perfect location for a weekend’s museum-hopping. For booking information, and to see more discounted London hotels, visit

London Dates Announced as David Baddiel Returns to Stand-Up

He found fame in the 90s with The Mary Whitehouse Experience, and hasn’t toured since that decade’s ‘Too Much Information’ tour fifteen years ago. British Airways Set to Change the Future of Airline Check-In

As part of its £5 billion investment programme to make travel more comfortable and convenient for customers, British Airways is trialling a new service which will allow its customers to use an automatic check-in service. The service would change the future of airline check-in, as it is known today.

Frank van der Post, British Airways’ Managing Director of Brands and Customer Experience, said: “Customers have so much to think about prior to a trip, be that finishing up in the office or getting the kids’ suitcases packed. We’re aiming to give them one less thing to think about by giving them the choice to be checked in automatically and sent their boarding pass electronically. Then they just need to drop off any bags and make their way to the plane.”

British Airways will start a trial with selected travellers flying out of airports in France. Invited customers will have the option to be checked in automatically. Twenty-four hours before their flight, customers will be automatically checked in, assigned a seat and they will receive their boarding pass electronically, saving them the time and effort of going through traditional check-in.

Van der Post continued: “We’re known for our innovation at British Airways and I’m excited that we are continuing that tradition by trialling a revolutionary service that will make check-in even quicker and easier for our customers.”

The automated check-in trial will be extended to a larger group of travellers in the spring. If the trials are a success, the aim is to make the service an option for all customers across the British Airways network by the end of 2013.

This autumn further trials will be undertaken to enhance the customer experience, including at the airline’s home at Heathrow Terminal 5, where it will trial a British Airways complimentary porter service for departing First and Gold Executive Club customers. Departing premium customers will be greeted at their vehicle as it pulls up alongside Terminal 5 by a host and offered the service of a porter, who will escort them and transport their luggage to the First class check-in area.

For those taking holidays in New York recently and travelling through New York’s JFK airport, may have experienced trials taking place to help customers navigate quickly through the buildings. This is thanks to British Airways customer service staff positioned in the baggage and arrivals halls. The trials are also taking place at Hong Kong International Airport where staff have even been positioned at the train station.

Rivers brings no-holds-barred comedy to London’s swankiest stage

On the 22nd October 2012, one of the United States’ most revered and often dumb-founding stand-up performers and female acts is returning to the UK with her unique brand of tell-it-like-it-is comedy and anecdotes.

Joan Rivers, who turns 80 next year, is renowned in the west for her hardworking attitude and energy – which has seen her work in recent years as an Emmy-award winning talk show host, comedienne, jewellery designer, playwright, author and Tony-award nominated actress – as well as for her raspy NY accent and candidness about her own – and other celebrity foibles.

The Royal Albert Hall seems delighted to be welcoming her in mid-October, after a sell-out success in the UK in 2005, which was her last time visiting the country on tour. The show begins at 8pm on 22nd October this year, with tickets priced between £28.50 and £37.50.

The Royal Albert Hall is one of the capital’s most famous and high profile venues, located in SW7 Kensington Gore, a few minutes walk from the major Victorian museums with which its shares its heritage and architectural traits., the internet’s number one site for London, is encouraging Rivers fans to make a night of it with some very reasonable deals on London hotels both in the Kensington area and further afield.

The Kensington Close Hotel and Spa has a double room in its luxurious 4* property for £62 on the night of the 22 nd October – perfect for walking home after the Rivers show and relaxing in style.

Customers can also save 48% on the Grange Strathmore Hotel London, an elegantly restored townhouse situated in the heart of Kensington, which has double rooms from £145.
